Landon Donovan on Clint Dempsey
Do you think it makes it more impressive that it is at a club like Fulham?
Well, I think it’s more impressive because he’s playing at a team where he’s become the man, the go-to guy and that’s very difficult. When teams are playing against Fulham every week, the first thing I’m sure that comes out of the manager’s mouth is ‘we’ve got to make sure Clint Dempsey is shut down’, and he’s still doing it with that attention. It’s not like he’s playing alongside Van Persie, Arteta, [Tomas] Rosicky and [Theo] Walcott, and then he’s just finding his way and some goals. He’s been their go-to guy, and he’s often times the one making the difference in their games. I’m thoroughly impressed with him and it’s been really fun to watch.

Landon Donovan on Clint Dempsey
What did you make of his season in the Premier League this time around?
To be honest, it’s almost hard to believe watching it because what’s happened is he has became a player that anybody around the world, any nationality, would say ‘wow, what an incredible year’. And for us as Americans that doesn’t happen. You know, we don’t have guys in the Premier League that pull off seasons like that. So, if he was just Robin van Persie, or Wayne Rooney, or Gareth Bale, or anyone else you’d be in awe of him and you’d say ‘what an amazing year’. And now he’s a guy that we’ve all had the pleasure of playing with, training with, being around and you see him do it and really it’s almost surreal. There’s no doubt this is the best season any American has ever put together in football.

Landon Donovan: “Everybody talks about who’s better, Clint [Dempsey] or Landon, all this bulls—-. And I want Clint to do well. I want Clint to succeed. I’m happier probably than anybody when he’s succeeding. It’s good for our team. It’s good for our sport. It’s great for Clint. Clint’s a little bit different of an animal. He still has that crazy hunger to succeed, more so than most. That’s great. That’s a beautiful thing. The more players we have like that, the better it’s going to be.”
Messi, USMNT trio among stars playing in Miami World Soccer Masters friendly
A collection of some of the U.S. national team’s top talent and the world’s greatest soccer players will be gathering in Miami in a month for one star-studded all-star friendly.
Clint Dempsey, Carlos Bocanegra, Jozy Altidore, Lionel Messi and Didier Drogba lead a cast of 42 players who will participate in the World Soccer Masters exhibition match June 23 at Miami’s Sun Life Stadium, according to a Fox press release. The match, which will be televised on Fox Soccer Channel, is slated for a 7 p.m. first kick and will conflict with a full slate of MLS matches that night.
Other players confirmed for the all-star match, according to Fox, include Liverpool’s Luis Suarez, Inter Milan’s Diego Forlan and Diego Milito, Barcelona’s Javier Mascherano, Atletico Madrid’s Radamel Falcao and veteran Italians Alessandro Nesta and Marco Materazzi. Fox and the World Soccer Masters have reached a multi-year agreement to put on the showcase, with this summer’s match being the inaugural one.
Clint Dempsey (groin strain) has yet to get on field at US camp. With 5 games in 18 days coming up, I’m doubting he’ll play vs Scotland Sat.
And you knew this was coming…
Battle of the Roommates.
